Weighing over 4 grams,the Anna's Hummingbird is the largest hummingbird normally observed on the west coast of North America. Unlike other North American hummingbirds, the Anna's Hummingbird is non-migratory. The nest is a small cup glued with spider webs to a small branch and decorated with lichens and moss. Habitat is chaparral, brushy oak woodlands, and gardens. Feeding territories are vigorously defended, and from July to late fall transient and juvenile birds disregard territorial claims, and competition at feeders increases greatly.
